The Blue Mountains Wombat Conservation Group is a registered not-for-profit charity that has been fighting the devastating introduced parasite sarcoptic mange for more than five years across the Blue Mountains and Sydney.

Mange is a painful, slow and cruel death for infected wombats if left untreated.

Mange is also highly contagious, and the mite can survive in wombat burrows for up to 19 days without a host, allowing it to rapidly spread through entire populations.

Fortunately, mange is entirely treatable, and the Blue Mountains Wombat Conservation Group is dedicated to breaking this cycle.

All year round, our volunteers are out in the bush: 

o   treating infected wombats and colonies

o   monitoring burrows and wombat individuals with wildlife cameras

o   training new volunteers

o   educating landowners to recognise and treat mange.

But the fight is expensive.

The life-saving medication we use is costly, and as cases rise, so does our need for supplies, training resources, and on-ground support.
