At Blessing Bags of Warmth our goal is to not only provide support and guidance to individuals and families experiencing homelessness but also to those recently housed after being un-sheltered. Studies have shown that a significant proportion of formerly homeless individuals experience housing instability, or return to homelessness, within a few years or even months of becoming housed.

Rates ranging from 10% to as much as 40% in some cases.

Several factors contribute to this phenomenon such as, but not limited to, shortage of support services and financial instability.

Just as addressing homelessness requires a multifaceted approach that includes providing access to affordable housing and support services, following up with families after becoming housed is extremely pivotal as well.

We have found that offering assistance during this transition period has been beneficial. 

Assistance including, but not limited to:

* Providing groceries or transportation to local food pantries.

* Connecting individuals with community members willing to donate furniture, appliances or other useful items.

* Providing basic budget guidance or connection to agencies able to offer further financial education.

* Offering a one time safety net during the first month for unexpected expenses such as utility deposits.

These basic actions can greatly increase stability and reduce the risk of returning to homelessness.

This initiative is our "Success K.I.T." or Keep In Touch.
