We do it… because it matters!The Because It Matters Project is a 501 (c) 3 charity that is dedicated to servicing the community and the people in it. As a non-profit, we provide assistance to people in need. Some of the services we provide are: • Every year we provide Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner to the John George Home, the Jackson Friendly Home, Andy’s Place Sober  Living Recovery Facility, the Aware Domestic Violence Shelter, the Adventist Community Food Pantry and people in need within the community. • Christmas Day Back Pack Giveaway – We coordinate and deliver backpack filled with necessities to the homeless of Jackson, Hillsdale and Wayne counties. • Christmas Toy Giveaway - With the help of several businesses in the Detroit area, we collect toys and raise money to provide Christmas gifts for shelter and underprivileged children in Jackson & Wayne County. • We coordinate and put on fundraising events for people who are in need because of illness or death. • We collect and provide food and basic necessities for the local food pantries. • We host the Captain Jeff Haney Memorial Golf Outing every year to remember Captain Haney and in the past, to raise money for Usher Syndrome awareness/research and the Captain Jeff Haney Memorial Scholarship Fund at Jackson College. (Both of Captain Haney’s daughters were born deaf, will soon lose their sight without an Usher Syndrome cure). • The 30/30 project – We donate 30 necessities bags (things that a cancer patient will need while receiving chemo such as lotions, hand sanitizers, playing cards, letters of encouragement) to the oncology department at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital every 30 days for new patients who are starting chemotherapy. • Our latest project is Kelly’s Creations. This project is sewing zippers into fashionable shirts and blouses. This will allow easy access to the chemo port area without removing the shirt. We distribute this shirt to cancer patients, free of charge. Your donation will help us continue providing these much needed shirts to the people/children who are battling cancer.
