Anacortes Family Center (AFC) provides inclusive, family-centered services that help keep families together while addressing homelessness and housing instability. Through its emergency shelter, transitional housing, and affordable housing programs, AFC offers a continuum of care that supports women and families with children from immediate crisis to long-term stability. Recognizing that many participants, including both parents and youth, experience mental health challenges, AFC delivers trauma-informed care and individualized case management tailored to each family’s unique needs, goals, and background.

Families are supported with life skills training, educational support, employment and rent readiness, and accountability-driven goals such as budgeting and time management. Within 48 hours of entry, adults receive resume assistance and are connected to one of 15 partnered employers offering fast-tracked hiring and job training opportunities. Weekly life skills classes cover practical topics like nutrition, parenting after trauma, and tenant rights. 

AFC integrates youth services into its programming, including educational support, enrichment activities, and connections to age-appropriate community resources that promote healthy development and stability. Case managers identify barriers and help clients create long and short-term goals to break these barriers down and become self-sufficient. 

By fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment, AFC ensures that all family members feel valued, supported, and empowered to succeed. This holistic approach strengthens family units and promotes long-term self-sufficiency. Through its focus on transitional shelter, affordable housing, and comprehensive support services, AFC helps families break the cycle of homelessness and build a foundation for a more stable and secure future.
