Allegro Dance Project is one of the leading contemporary dance companies in the commonwealth of Kentucky. Since the company’s inception in 2014, we have presented eleven world premieres, featuring contemporary dance, original live music, and aerial/circus arts. The organization reaches over 1,500 children and over 1,600 audience members annually through the Inclusive Dance Outreach Program, Adaptive Dance Classes, and the Contemporary Dance Company. The Inclusive Dance Outreach Program provides professional dance training for children with Down Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and other special needs, with an additional focus on children from low-to-moderate income households. By blending classical ballet, jazz, and contemporary movements, the program is an inclusive and engaging way for participants to explore the art of dance in the comfort and convenience of their school. The Inclusive Dance Outreach Program has grown from 50 students in 2014 to over 1,500 in just twelve years. We also offer weekly Adaptive Dance Classes open to the entire community. These classes provide the opportunity for continued yearlong study for participants of our Inclusive Dance Outreach Program, as well as provide quality dance instruction for those new to our program or new to dance altogether. Finally, the Contemporary Dance Company presents two mainstage productions each season at the Moondance Amphitheater and the Pam Miller Downtown Arts Center in Lexington, Kentucky. The company awards paid contracts to talented dancers, aerialists and musicians in the community each season, offering them valuable work experience as professional company artists; participants in the Inclusive Dance Outreach Program regularly perform alongside our company dancers on stage for the opening and/or closing number of each mainstage performance.
