A-Team Productions is a youth musical theatre charity based in the heart of the North Edinburgh community. Established in 2013, our goal is to provide, annually, a free platform for approximately 50 young people aged 8-20 to stage multiple performances of two musical theatre productions, during a week-long run. The young people don’t pay anything to take part, thus removing barriers to participation and allowing everyone the opportunity to be involved no matter their personal circumstances.Since we started, we have provided opportunities for approximately 320 young people and 85 volunteers and have performed to an audience of over 5000. Our Creative and Production teams are comprised, primarily, of people who are employed in musical theatre in a professional capacity, or who are currently studying with a view to this being the eventual outcome. Talented and experienced, the Creative and Production teams undertake these positions on a voluntary basis and lead the young people in dance lessons, acting workshops and singing lessons and provide them with a professionally staged set on which to perform. The rehearsal period will stretch from February to our performance in August.  Twice a week, for 3hrs each session, the cast work together to form strong bonds, practicing their songs with the Musical Director and working on scenes and their characters with the Director and Assistant Director. We encourage a team ethic through team-building exercises related to theatre and performance. By encouraging young people to work in this way, we believe that they will develop transferable skills, which don’t just apply in amateur theatre but will help them throughout their adult lives. A-Team strives to create a relaxed atmosphere, allowing young people to grow in confidence, giving them space and freedom to create something which they can call their own. Many of our young people have gone on to work professionally or have gone on to further education in the Arts.A-Team Productions welcomes young people and volunteers of every and any background. We provide a creative outlet where young people are accepted as individuals in a non-judgemental environment. We have a support structure where we can welcome young people with additional support needs regarding physical movement and learning disabilities, we have an adult volunteer who is professionally engaged with people with learning disabilities.
