About us
Parent’s Information & Resource Center (PIRC) is an African American Female Not-for-Profit Business Enterprise. PIRC was incorporated in the state of Florida since 1992 and accredited by the Joint Commission on Healthcare Organization (JCAHO). We are primarily a fee for service agency that is funded by Florida Medicaid, Medicare and Private Insurances.
PIRC is a Community Mental Health Clinic that provides psychiatric care, social services and educational support along with parenting classes. Our mission is to help individuals and families in their efforts to maintain self-sufficiency. We provide psychiatric evaluations, psychotropic medication management, individual and family therapy via tele-health, in office, in schools and child care facilities.
Since 1992, PIRC has assisted approximately 50,000 at risk families in South Florida to acquire mental health care at our facility. We specialized in helping parents who are involved in the child welfare and/or juvenile justice system.
Starting in 1993, PIRC worked with Broward County Family Court, the Department of Children and Families along with Childnet to provide parenting education and training for the parents whose children are in foster care. The aim of that partnership was to help in the reunification process by educating parents on appropriate parenting techniques. Parenting class are provide private on-on-one parenting counseling, group classes such as the “Child Abuse Sensitivity Training” and “Parenting Your Angry Child Workshops”.
We in partnership with Childnet, the Department of Children and Families, the Broward County Family Court along with a host of other agencies to provide counseling and parenting.
Starting in 2019, PIRC with its partners (Nova University and BC Public School) has provided virtual parenting education classes to over 1,800 Spanish, Haitian Creole and Portuguese speaking parents of students in public schools to access mental health care, educational support and community along with school based resources. Over 10,000 parents, reviewed Empowering Parents materials and over 7000 participated in an Empowering Parents survey on their attitudes towards accessing behavioral health services for their child.
In 2020, PIRC contracted with Nova University to provide the Empowering Parenting for foreign language (Spanish, Creole, and Portuguese) speaking parents in the Broward County School system.
