About us
Sharks Pacific’s mission is to understand the importance of sharks in Pacific communities, and to advocate for the conservation and responsible management of sharks and the related marine environment through research, outreach, and advocacy.
Sharks Pacific is working with Island communities, fishermen, policy makers, and scientists to understand sharks and rays in Pacific waters—and to create effective policies to protect vulnerable species. Through research, outreach, education and advocacy, we are working to understand the complex issues contributing to the decline of shark and ray populations and helping to create effective regulations that will protect them for future generations.
We conduct research that informs conservation and management action at various levels: community, national and international. Through strategic outreach and efforts to highlight our work in the Pacific, we endeavor to educate and inspire stewardship and pointed action for sharks and their marine environment throughout the world. We are also committed to responsible conservation and that means working with stakeholders to design shark and marine conservation and management policies that effectively protect sharks and rays and consider the perspectives of people. We aren’t afraid to use our science, our communities and our political savvy to get it done.
Sharks and rays are one of the oldest and most diverse group of animals on Earth. These vulnerable creatures are an irreplaceable part of the world’s biodiversity, but many species are at risk of disappearing. One quarter of all shark and ray species are threatened with extinction. Your donation will directly support the important work we do to protect sharks and rays through research, outreach and advocacy.
