About us
Project Healing Heroes Project Healing Heroes (PHH) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2016 to help combat veterans, first responders, and others affected by trauma move beyond simply surviving traumatic experiences toward healing, connection, purpose, and a meaningful life.
PHH approaches trauma recovery from the perspective that trauma can affect the whole person—physically, psychologically, relationally, socially, and spiritually. Rather than relying on a single intervention, the organization provides programs that combine education, peer support, physical activity, experiential opportunities, and community.
At the heart of Project Healing Heroes is UP ARMOR, PHH's structured trauma-recovery program. UP ARMOR uses a peer-supported approach to help participants understand trauma, recognize how it has affected their lives and relationships, develop practical tools for recovery, and begin rebuilding identity, meaning, and connection. The broader UP ARMOR curriculum also incorporates themes of resilience, character, relationships, spirituality, and post-traumatic growth.
PHH's programs also include Equines for the Front Lines, which uses structured equine experiences to support veterans and first responders; About Face Fitness, which incorporates physical wellness and connection into recovery; and PTSD University, an educational initiative designed to increase understanding of trauma and its treatment.
A defining feature of Project Healing Heroes is its emphasis on community and shared experience. The organization recognizes that people who have served in the military, law enforcement, fire service, EMS, and other high-stress professions may be reluctant to seek traditional mental health care or may feel that others cannot fully understand what they have experienced. PHH creates environments where participants can be around people who understand that culture and where asking for help is viewed as an act of strength rather than weakness.
Ultimately, Project Healing Heroes exists to help people reclaim their lives after trauma. Its work is not simply about reducing symptoms. It is about helping individuals rediscover hope, strengthen relationships, reconnect with purpose, and recognize that traumatic experiences do not have to define the rest of their lives.
