Opportunities Unlimited for the Blind offers summer camps and year round activities for children and youth who are blind or low vision. Over half of our staff are also blind or low vision, as they are the best mentors for our kids. We focus on learning skills of blindness, like cooking, gardening, mobility and social skills as well as having fun rock climbing, swimming, arts and crafts and more stuff that most kids do at summer camp! We also go on a 10-day adventure trip to somewhere in Michigan or the Midwest to explore doing things most people think blind people can't do, like kayaking in single kayaks, climbing on real rocks, or learning to ride a single bicycle. We sleep in tents all summer and learn to enjoy being outdoors as well as making lifelong friends and learning life-long skills, like how to use a sharp kitchen knife or a hot oven or stove top. This summer we are going to Lake Itasca in Minnesota, the headwaters of the Mighty Mississippi!
