I devoted and selfless activist who, for more than six years, has dedicated himself to protecting and aiding the stray dogs of Iraq’s streets and cities. Today, Nuri directly supports over 1,000 dogs—providing food, medical treatment, shelter, and protection from every danger. This immense undertaking receives no official or financial backing; it is driven solely by heart-felt conviction and an unwavering sense of responsibility toward life. Nuri stands as a living example of humanity, unconditional compassion, and the profound change one person can create—even for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Every single day I have to gather, cook and deliver meat scraps, dry kibble and fresh vegetables to the streets of Erbil, Kirkuk and Sulaymaniyah. I do it entirely alone—no team, no NGO, no donations arriving on time. I drive those hundreds of kilometres by myself because every dog in this region is waiting for me and no one else. The people around me hate the dogs and, because I feed them, they hate me too. So I film: I show a starving pup wagging his tail when he sees me, a three-legged mother sharing her food with a kitten, an old male who walks a little blind boy to the bakery every morning. Through those shaky clips I prove that a dog is not filthy, not a monster—he feels hunger, love, loyalty. That is why I love them and why I will never stop: the human world still needs the presence of dogs to remember what mercy looks like.
