the first home was completed in 1996 and was recently paid off. For the first 13 years, Habitat was all volunteer run. Historically Habitat had built 1-2 homes per year in Chico, Oroville, and/or Paradise. To date we have built 52 homes and completed 3 rehab projects. 75 adults and over 100 children’s lives have been positively impacted by having a safe, decent, and affordable home. Since opening in 2004, the ReStore has generated over $1 million in net proceeds, which went directly towards the construction of additional homes. Moreover, it has successfully diverted over 3,200 tons of used household items from landfills by reselling them. The ReStore continues to be a profitable asset for our organization through both donations and sales. Since the Camp Fire in 2018, our goal is now to build 10 homes a year. We currently have 42 lots in Paradise. 13 lots were donated, and 27 lots were purchased with grant funds. Four homes are currently under construction, 7 have been sold to homeowners, and 4 have the home sale pending. These families are looking forward to becoming homeowners in Paradise and being active members of the community by recreating, shopping, and attending schools. They are especially looking forward to being a part of the rebuilding process. Of the 17 homes completed since the Camp Fire, 11 of these families are Camp Fire survivors and all qualified as first-time home buyers. We anticipate building in Paradise for 10-15 years to come. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build their home. Habitat homeowners help build alongside other volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable homeownership, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability, and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Homeownership provides families with the stability to thrive. Habitat’s mission of building homes, community and hope is more relevant than ever.
