The Friends of the Merrimack River Greenway Trail is a non-profit group which exists solely to develop and promote a continuous, off-street paved trail in Concord, NH, following the Merrimack River from the Pembroke city line to the Boscawen city line.

The Merrimack River Greenway Trail is intended to be a 4-season, paved “shared use” facility that will be inviting to people of all ages, and will allow and encourage use by walkers, runners, bicyclists, roller bladers and, when conditions permit, cross country skiers and snowshoers.  The Trail will be about 12.7 miles long in total.  The northerly 6.8 miles will be a rail trail and the southerly 5.9 miles will be a riverside greenway trail. To the extent practicable, it will be universally accessible to people of all mobility abilities.

The trail will-

  • Serve transportation and recreation purposes,

  • Connect villages,

  • Provide access to the Merrimack River and adjacent open space,

  • Provide safe and inviting health and fitness opportunities,

  • Connect with other built and planned trails, such as the Granite State Rail Trail, the Northern Rail Trail and the Concord-Lake Sunapee Rail Trail.
