About us

The mission of Crushers Club is to be the strongest alternative to gangs in Chicago by providing the support and tools needed to restore their paths and rebuild their communities. We accomplish this by using the same tactics and model gangs do through our Crushers WorkForce Initiative. Combined with intensive mentoring, on site Trauma Specialist and a variety of enrichment programs, our young men are terminating off of probation, staying out of the justice system and building their earning potential. Over the past year, 160 Englewood youth (ages 14+) who were either justice-involved or community youth at the greatest risk of becoming involved in the juvenile justice system worked over 39,000 hours and earned wages totaling a combined $600,000+ through Crushers’ growing WorkForce youth employment/job training program. This resulted in youth transforming their mindsets, becoming tax contributing members of society and attaining their goals of staying out of trouble and staying in the workforce world. Crushers Club is a community-based program addressing critical challenges – community violence, trauma, poverty, and underinvestment among others – for Englewood-area youth. While many nonprofits serve the more general category of at-risk youth, Crushers Club serves acutely high-risk youth ages 13-19 (100% from low-income families, 99% African American) who are either justice-involved or at the greatest risk of becoming justice involved(e.g., excessive school suspensions, gang activity/affiliation). Due to our success we are receiving multiple referrals weekly from Juvenile Probation Officers and always have a waiting list. In addition our financials are in the top 1% for transparency as rated by Charity Navigator with 89% of revenue going directly to programming. To date, the majority (85%+) of Crushers justice-involved youth do not re-offend within three years, in stark contrast to the state average in which 87% of justice-involved male youth do re-offend within three years. The Club prides itself on its ability to redirect youth at a fraction of the high cost of juvenile incarceration.
