Our Community Project is a non-denominational service with a vision to improve life for its community by reducing hunger and poverty through an environment in which everyone has access to sufficient and affordable nutritious food whilst reducing the environmental impact of food wastage.
Established and funded by its founder as a direct result of her own experience of leaving an abusive relationship, the mission of OCP is to create access to good, healthy food for everybody in a manner that maintains dignity and strengthens community.
More than a service for low income earners, new residents, retirees, single parent families, the unemployed and homeless, people living with mental illness, disability and/or substance abuse/dependence, OCP assists those greatest in need, “the working poor” struggling to make ends met. Not eligible for government welfare assistance, this service prevents those at-risk from sliding into a downward spiral. Each week OCP also provides cereals, milk, bread, condiments, fresh fruit and vegetables to local schools for school breakfast programs so that every child has an equal opportunity to excel academically, emotionally and socially. Support for Our Community Pantry ensures the program can continue this important service to its 600 members and expand its scope of work.
