Populations of abandoned domestic rabbits and their feral offspring are burgeoning across North America. Rabbit haters are contending with damage to their properties and gardens and rabbit lovers are traumatized witnessing the rabbits’ distress and often their demise under the wheels of cars, the in the talons of hawks or the jaws of coyotes drawn to the growing city populations. The invasive rabbits in some areas are beginning to encroach on farmland, a situation that can threaten local food supplies. As a conduit for Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease, the rabbits are also threatening native species, including endangered ones. This situation can only get worse with time unless methods of control and rescue are developed and implemented in affected communities - for the benefit of the rabbits, the humans and the environment.
