About us
Border Animal Rescue has existed since 1998 and serves all of Cochise County, Arizona. we are a 100% volunteer organization. Cochise County (approx 6400 square miles, with a population of about 128,000) is a very rural county. Cochise County does not have a countywide animal shelter; we perform many of the functions as a 501c3 that such a shelter would perform. Our annual budget typically runs between $100,000 and $125,000. Although our core competencies are Trap Neuter Release /Return of Feral Cats, Reduced Cost Spay and Neuter Services, and the fostering and adoption of rescued dogs and cats. When funds are available, we assist the poor and disabled members of our community with veterinarian and pet food support. Our rescued animals come from our TNR program (when abandoned pets living in feral cat colonies) are trapped, members of the community, animal control, shelters, and other rescue groups. Should we have insufficient resources to foster or socialize them potentially rescued animals, we attempt to place them with other organizations. Working closely with animal shelters within the county, we take adoptable animals facing imminent euthanasia and when space or resources are not available, help with their placement.
