We're located in the middle of the Nantahala National Forest, a full mile from the closest neighbor. This rescue started because people were dumping unwanted dogs in the woods for the coyotes to dispose of. This is the effort of the family of one disabled woman who prayed for purpose and was sent 5 starving, abandoned, hunting dogs. Angels Retreat typically takes in only dogs who are at risk of being PTS due to injury and illness at larger municipal shelters. We can only help a few at a time, but to those few, we are their last chance. If a dog is here, it was out of options. We can't always save them, but we try our best.
