We have implemented the respectful relationship program called Love Bites in Murwillumbah High and Sathya Sai High since 2019 and will continue to deliver it in 2021, hopefully to more schools. Love Bites Respectful Relationship program has been identified as a key primary prevention method to address the drivers of domestic violence in our community by providing and modelling respectful relationships education to young people. The vision of WFSI in delivering this project is to invest in the establishment of a model in which schools across the community are supported to create cultures and futures free from violence.
As well we have had a recoery program running also from 2019 for women who have left domestic violence situations. Researched and developed by International F & DV practitioners from 5 countries – Estonia, Portugal, Italy, UK and Hungary, the ‘Power to Change’ is run specifically for survivors of domestic abuse.
It is based on the idea that women working together in a safe, friendly and non-judgmental environment can change their lives for the better. The group runs for weekly 2-hour sessions over a period of 12 weeks for between 5-10 women. The sessions are free of charge includes free child care and refreshments.
