The Shepherd Centre (TSC) is a not-for-profit organisation specialising in helping children who are deaf or have hearing loss, to develop clear spoken language. By developing their speech, listening & social skills, these children can attend mainstream schools and enjoy all the opportunities in life that are available to other children.
TSC was founded in 1970 by the late Dr Bruce Shepherd and his wife Annette who had two deaf children and wished for them to learn to speak and fully participate in hearing society. They aimed to provide a family-centred early intervention program to teach children with hearing loss to
learn to listen and speak.
Today TSC is recognised as a world leader in paediatric hearing loss and provides a range of services to over 550 families each year across five centres in NSW and the ACT, as well as outreach support to Tasmania and rural/remote Australia.
Through hearing aid and cochlear implant technologies and the application of specialised early intervention therapy TSC has transformed the lives of deaf children, bringing them the gifts of sound & speech.
