Parkinson's Queensland Incorporated
Parkinson' Disease is now the fastest growing neurological condition in the world. While treatment can improve quality of life, there is no cure. In Queensland more than 18,000 people have Parkinson's and that numbers grows by 2,000 each year. Parkinson's Queensland is here to assist people with Parkinson's and their carers, by providing peer support programs, access to wellbeing programs, information and education about the disease. We also help fund research and education programs for medical professionals. Our current resources only allow us to support 2,500 of the more than 18,000 people with Parkinson's across our state so many are missing out. There is still a stigma attached to Parkinson's disease so may people feel isolated. This is even more prevalent in people with Young Onset Parkinson's many in their 30s and 40s with young families and still working. The more we can raise awareness about the disease more we can reduce the stigma and ensure people with Parkinson's have access to the support they need regardless of where they live in Queensland.
