We provide sanctuary for retired horses and the people who love and care for them. Offering holistic and individualized care for elderly horses ensures that they get the care they need for the duration of their lives. 

Our care and feeding program addresses their nutritional and medical needs without going to extreme measures. Working with our veterinary team, farrier and through nutritional research we monitor their well being daily. 

We are with each equine every step of the way. Understanding when it is time to let them go, we do so with their needs in mind and with dignity. It is an honor to be with them during this transitional time. 

Most of the equines we care for have come from owners whose situations have changed and they can no longer care for them. Some were considered not to able to be re-adopted by other rescues and came to us for a safe and long term landing spot. They have thrived having day to day consistency and given the freedom to just be a horse. 

Currently we provide a forever home to 1 donkey, 4 ponies and 14 horses. They all live in groups of 3-4 and are in paddocks with shelter, fresh water and plenty of good quality hay. They each get a bowl with appropriate feed and supplements in the morning along with their hay. Some who need extra supplements and senior feed get a bowl in the evening as well. 

Our herd is sweet and gentle, happy to find purpose at the end of their life. They have found Sanctuary here at HeartSpace. Those that come visit, volunteer or work here find Sanctuary as well.

We appreciate your support as our herd eats approximately 50 tons of hay/ year, consumes 1 bag of Senior feed/day, 6 are on medication and they all get daily supplements. The farrier visits every 8 weeks to trim their hooves. Dentals are done every 1-2 years, depending on the horse. All of the animals are monitored 24/7  by the sanctuary team and our vets are consulted as needed
