Friends of Lackota Animal Sanctuary was founded in May, 2020, in Fort Collins, Colorado by Thom and Sam Munholland. They focus on rescuing horses and donkeys, but no large animal is turned away if they can help. Many of the horses and donkeys are rescued from the slaughter pipeline, whether it be from meat auctions or kill pens. So many of these animals are rescued from years of abuse, starvation, neglect, and not to mention the trauma that they experience being thrown into the slaughter pipeline. So many of these majestic animals are "banged up" to the point where they require extensive ongoing nutritional and medical care which makes the sanctuary their "soft landing." At Friends of Lackota Animal Sanctuary, we do not turn away horses and donkeys simply because they are special needs. If this is the case, we will house them until their final days. Our goal at the sanctuary is to ensure that even the "unadoptable" animals find a life of love and happiness. That said, we also offer select animals for adoption to the appropriate homes after an extensive application process.  Thanks so much for helping us!!
