Claws ‘n’ Paws Rescue is a volunteer run community based rescue on the NSW Central Coast. Claws ‘n Paws Rescue was established in 2010 with approximately 15 carers and now has approximately 180 foster carers. For many years we ran as a not for profit organization. We became a charity in 2018 and shortly afterwards our DGR (deductible gift recipient) status. We have the ability to rehome a large number of animals each year without sacrificing the quality of care. To date we have successfully rehomed over 10000 animals all if which have been treated for any necessary problems, desexed, flea treatment and vaccinated. Claws ‘n’ Paws currently run many programs including private surrender, rehoming, Operation Intercept, cat de-sex program, pound rescues, pound animals to be held under Duty of Care. With Operation intercept we ask the person surrendering the animal to give us all the kittens and offer to desex mum for free. All the kittens are desexed before rehoming thus insuring no more babies are produced from that heritage line. The object here is that no more unwanted kittens from this particular household add to the chaos. Even if one kitten is given away by the owner, that means it will start again somewhere else. We really try and discouraged this. Many people have good intentions to desex but unfortunately it does not always happen. One pair of cats is capable of producing up to 460 thousand kittens in 7 years. We also offer the same procedure for the mums of puppies we take.

We do much needed work helping with hording situations, which involves large numbers of animals often in devastating conditions.

All our animals receive the veterinary care they need, be it a desex, a dental or heart surgery if it is needed they receive it. They receive general training and if needed they may receive behavioral training.

Our animals are all located in our foster carer’s homes across the Central Coast receiving the same love that they will be receiving in their new forever homes.

Our aim as a rescue is to keep de-sexing as many animals as we possibly can, this will help to alleviate the unnecessary suffering and unwanted litters, which will then hopefully have an effect on the current euthanasia rates, not only on the Central Coast but in the whole of Australia.
