The major crises we all face have their origins in our food system: everything that happens from soil to stomach to make sure we can eat every day. Mostly we take it for granted that food is abundant and affordable. But the costs are huge. Climate change and biodiversity loss? Large-scale de-forestation, factory farming of meat and urbanisation are leading causes. Major public health challenges like diabetes and cancer? So much comes back to what we eat.
We can and must do better – and we are. Hundreds of farmers are managing land sustainably, regenerating soils and ecosystems, not harming them; and producing highly nutritious food. All across the country, a growing army of urban gardeners are making our towns and cities edible.
Sustain is at the forefront of a growing movement for a better food system that benefits all Australians. We model the path to a healthy and fair future for all. We believe when we change our relationship to our food system, we change the world for the better in profound ways. By donating you will help us reach more people through our dynamic events, grow our network of change-makers and contribute to the growth of our groundbreaking projects like the Melbourne Food Hub and the Cardinia Food Movement.
