Founded in 2006, the Dogstar Foundation is an Australian registered charity dedicated to improving the welfare of animals in Sri Lanka by providing sterilisations, vaccinations and education programs leading to attitude change. A dog charity with a difference, Dogstar is committed to understanding Sri Lankan communities and helping them to find sustainable solutions to animal welfare issues.
Dogstar Foundation runs a mobile outreach clinic that travels throughout Sri Lanka providing safe, free spay/neuter and vaccinations for dogs and cats. Our Giving Circle helps pay the costs of the mobile clinic for 1 day a month – meaning we’ll be making a direct and measurable impact on this problem. Just one un-spayed dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 puppies in six years. To prevent mass overpopulation and suffering, it is imperative that Sri Lankan street animals are sterilised and vaccinated.
As the sponsor of 1 day a month of the mobile outreach clinic our Giving Circle will:
- Be kept updated on which days we are sponsoring and where the clinic will be travelling too – direct, measurable and verified outcomes
- Receive before and after photos to show exactly how we are improving animal welfare in Sri Lanka
- Regular updates on the work of Dogstar Foundation
- A direct two-way communication channel with Dogstar Foundation

About Dogstar Foundation
Founded in 2006, the Dogstar Foundation is an Australian registered charity dedicated to improving the welfare of animals in Sri Lanka by providing sterilisations, vaccinations and education programs leading to attitude change. Since 2006 Dogstar has worked closely with Sri Lankan communities and vets to provide sterilisations, vaccinations, veterinary treatment, education leading to attitude change and the development of veterinary practice. A dog charity with a difference, Dogstar is committed to understanding Sri Lankan communities and helping them to find sustainable solutions to animal welfare issues.
Sri Lanka is home to millions of roaming street dogs and cats, who suffer immeasurable pain from diseases, vehicle accidents, and cruelty. Overpopulation of street dogs (and cats) has been an issue that societies have dealt with in a variety of ways, many inhumane. The welfare of the animals has rarely been considered, and as a result, campaigns of poisoning, shooting, electrocution, drowning, starvation and other cruel methods have been used to "dispose" of unwanted animals. Such activities are not only brutal; they are ineffective because, although they may serve as methods for “immediate” results, they are not long-term solutions.
The life of an uncared for street dog can be wretched. Entire lives spent without any positive human contact, basic shelter or veterinary care. Suffering hunger, constant torment from preventable and treatable skin conditions or parasitic infections. Dogs and cats are at constant risk of being trapped in illegal snares, injured in fights over territory, contracting sexually transmitted diseases or being exposed to fatal diseases like Rabies. In Sri Lanka, the most effective way to deal with the street dog overpopulation crisis is through education, sterilization and vaccination. About the Dogstar Foundation Giving Circle
Can anyone join?
Absolutely. People with a passion for animal welfare or who have a personal connection with Sri Lanka may feel an especially close affinity with this Giving Circle but anyone is welcome to join
Is there a minimum donation level?
Because credit card fees eat up a percentage of the monthly donations we do ask that people commit to a minimum donation of $10 per month, but of course we welcome larger donations from people who can afford it
How long am I committing to monthly donations?
If you choose monthly giving your card will be charged each month, but one-off donations are also welcome. You're free to change or cancel your monthly donation at anytime by logging into your MyGivingCircle account.
When does my monthly donations commence?
Once you have joined the Giving Circle your first monthly donation will be taken from your credit card at that time. Your monthly donation will then occur at the same time each month
What happens if we don't reach our target?
With your help we're confident that we'll reach this target. If we don't the money we contribute will still pay for part of the costs of the mobile outreach clinic and it's good work will continue, but what we want is to know that together we are completely funding it for 1 day a month for the next 2 years.
Are donations to this good cause Tax Deductible?
Yes. For Australian residents any donation above $2 is tax deductible and you will be issued with a recepit by Dogstar Foundation for tax purposes.
