Can you imagine a world where a dog were considered a pest and only a minority of people liked them? Worse still, imagine they were illegal to own and as a results, were ‘dumped’ by those who once loved them and then killed. While it is hard to believe, this is often the fate of domesticated rabbits.

Kim and her husband Jimmy opened The Rabbit Sanctuary in 2008. While Jimmy has since passed away, Kim has continued their joint legacy and has dedicated her life to providing a safe, happy place for rabbits to live when they find themselves in hard or life threatening circumstance. Since opening the sanctuary, Kim has taken in hundreds of abandoned, unwanted and seized rabbits and provided refuge and veterinary care, including vaccinations, microchipping and desexing. Once the rabbits are healthy and have had their vet work, Kim works tirelessly to find these bunnies forever homes.

While she never gives up trying, The Rabbit Sanctuary has become a permanent home to many rabbits who, for various reasons, weren’t adopted. Despite never finding forever homes outside of the sanctuary, Kim has made many sacrifices to ensure the ‘permanent residents’ and well cared for and loved.

One of the aims of The Rabbit Rescue Sanctuary is to raise the cultural value of the rabbit as a wonderful pet. Kim has worked tirelessly to raise the cultural value of a pet rabbit to that of a dog. She believes that this will help to stop the poor treatment of pet rabbits as a cheap disposable pet with no value. By raising the status of rabbits as a valued companion animal, the hope is that they will be less likely to be cruelly treated and ‘dumped’ as they often are.

The Rabbit Sanctuary counts of the generosity of others to continue to operate. Funds are necessary to cover costs for feed, electricity & veterinary costs. All rescue rabbits are desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. Many require surgery and medications.

I am reaching out to animal lovers in hope you'll spare some change to help support Kim and The Rabbit Sanctuary to continue to save more lives.

Your art conveys a love of animals and so, I am hoping you will consider supporting The Rabbit Sanctuary though a donation.

Thank you for taking the time to read this request- I am sure Kim would be taken back and humbled by any help you can give.
