The Nappy Collective Cover Photo
The Nappy Collective collects leftover unused disposable nappies and redistributes them to organisations that support families affected by domestic violence, as well as families in crisis or in need. Founded in 2013 in Melbourne by a local Mum, Collectives now run for two weeks each May and October. The Nappy Collective is currently held in over 50 cities and towns across Australia with over 400 specific locations where nappies can be donated. The collected nappies are redistributed to 200 beneficiary organisations around Australia. Nappies are an essential basic healthcare need for babies and toddlers. They are also a significant expense. Babies can use between 10-12 nappies per day ($5-6 per day) or over 3,500 in their first year (~$2000). Many carers will forgo other basic needs such as food or medicine to purchase nappies. Our purpose is to provide support to parents caring for babies and young children who, as a result of poverty, crisis, illness or disability, would otherwise be unable to access these essential healthcare items. We are the only organisation in Australia focused exclusively on helping these carers with their nappy needs (a product outside most government funding regulations).
