Currently the most lethal gynecological disease, ovarian cancer causes the death of a woman every 10 hours. RoCan’s mission is to raise awareness about ovarian cancer and raise vital funds to support research into its cause and cure. RoCan is also raising funds for a new Cancer support house in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne. A facility for patients travelling from the country for day treatment - a place to relax and rest for both men and women. Funded by Yvonne Moon following the loss of a close friend, RoCan has among its main objectives to support research into early detection of the disease. Ovarian cancer screening tests such as the Pap smear can fail to detect abnormalities in the early stages. One of RoCan’s key commitments is to research that is trying to find a new, more effective screening test. Established with the support of the Rotary Club of Williamstown, RoCan is a community partner of the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness Centre, a provider of world-class facilities for cancer patients and a leading research institution.
