We have great plans to help families of children with disabilities throughout WA. We want to be able to offer an information and advocacy service as well as offer grassroots programs that meet the needs of our community. Currently we are fundraising to start up a mentoring program where we will match an adult with a disability with a child with a similar disability. Our long-term goal is to open an intensive therapy clinic in Perth that offers a range of therapies in an intensive model. Raising a child with a disability can be a financial and emotional strain. Government services fall significantly short of meeting the therapy and equipment needs of those with developmental disorders. One way to overcome this shortfall is for families to fundraise to help subsidise the costs associated with raising a child with a disability. However to fundraise in Western Australia you need to be able to do so under a charity license. Individuals cannot apply for a charity license which creates a major hurdle for families wanting to fundraise. Powerhouse Dreams aims to be a legal entity for families to be able to fundraise through. Together we can make a difference to families of children with developmental disabilities.
