Right now, there are more than 130 million girls around the world who are denied an education. Why? Because they were born a girl. In Sierra Leone, girls are more likely to be married before the age of 18 than they are to finish high school, and more than half of school aged girls are illiterate. Every girl has a right to an education. And an educated girl can change the world! Educating girls is also one of the most powerful solutions to fighting climate change, reducing poverty and creating a fair, sustainable and safe planet, for everyone. And that’s where One Girl comes in! In collaboration with girls and young women, One Girl delivers girl and community led educational programs in Sierra Leone and Uganda, designed to dismantle barriers preventing women and girls from reaching their full potential. One Girl programs focus on five key areas: access to quality education and career development in and out of the classroom, supporting female role models, promoting menstrual hygiene, advocating for sexual and reproductive health, and championing gender equality. Nobody should be denied an education because of who they are and where they were born. Together, we can change this!
