Each year, up to three babies in every 1,000 across Australia are affected by hearing loss, and the incidence of permanent hearing loss doubles by the time children start school. Hear and Say is a Queensland-wide children’s charity, enabling families to achieve optimal outcomes for their children with hearing loss by teaching them to listen and speak. Established in 1992, Hear and Say works to achieve this through a combination of modern hearing technology (such as the cochlear implant), together with specialised Listening and Spoken Language Therapy. We work across five centres – Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Darling Downs and Townsville – and via a Telepractice program serving rural and remote children and families. Our current programs and services include audiology, speech pathology, a school hearing screening program, social skills programs, and physiotherapy and occupational therapy support. Hear and Say is also committed to research and professional development.
