We provide counselling and life skills programmes to over 245 high risk women with infants in Auckland annually. Many of these women have significant mental health issues, are destitute, living in poverty and are referred to Dayspring in a state of crisis. Women seek our assistance in regard to multiple issues involving violence, abuse, unemployment, housing, finances, poverty, hardship and separation. Many are beneficiaries, young single or separated mothers who are suffering from past trauma, abuse, domestic violence and financial stress. These issues if unresolved, can set up a difficult cycle for mothers of substance abuse, anxiety, depression, as well as many other mental health issues. There is always a need in the community for the provision of programmes that are affordable to all women irrespective of income, particularly those who are on low incomes. Dayspring fills this niche offering Counselling and Life Skills Programmes on a donation basis only, with no woman being turned away due to their financial circumstances. Our programmes ensure all women are given the support and resources necessary to restore safety, financial security, independence and wellbeing necessary for future fulfilment and growth in their lives. Dayspring only receives 33% of its funding from Government and therefore relies heavily on charitable grants and donations to sustain its programmes. Dayspring is looking to raise funds to replace our ageing equipment and looking for ongoing support to employ a second counsellor.
